Boston Celtics 2008 Draft Preview

(Sports Network) - The world champion Boston Celtics have the last picks (30, 60) in the first and second rounds in this year's draft. They knocked off Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in six games, 4-2, in the NBA Finals to capture their first title since 1986 and 17th in franchise history.

The big three of Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and team captain Paul Pierce delivered. The 32-year-old Allen averaged 17.4 points in 73 games during the regular season, while Garnett, who is also 32, posted 18.8 points and a team- best 9.2 rebounds per game. The 30-year-old Pierce, who took home MVP honors in the finals, led the club in scoring (19.6 ppg).

Center Kendrick Perkins and point guard Rajon Rondo proved they fit perfectly with the big three in the starting lineup. Boston's executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge will try once again to surround his main nucleus with role players who can help the Celtics repeat.

Glen Davis, James Posey and Leo Powe all had their moments and played key roles in Boston's championship run. Veterans P.J. Brown and Sam Casell are question marks for next season, as they both joined Boston during the season to try and be part of a title-winning team..

Boston could use some help off the bench in the backcourt. With the 30th pick, the Celtics will try and find a guard who can play defense and consistently knock down an outside jumper. It won't be easy, but Ainge may have luck on his side.

Courtney Lee of Western Kentucky, Chris Douglas-Roberts of Memphis and Gary Forbes of Massachusetts are three guards that Boston should be considering at No. 30.

2007-08 Results: 66-16, defeated the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals.

Key Player(s): Ray Allen (Guard), Glenn Davis (Forward), Kevin Garnett (Forward), Kendrick Perkins (Center), Paul Pierce (Forward/Guard), James Posey (Forward), Leon Powe (Forward), Rajon Rondo (Guard).

Team Needs: Depth in the backcourt and a threat from the perimeter off the bench.

Draft picks: 1st round (30th overall), 2nd round (60th overall).
