Report: Miami C Magloire Out Six To Eight Weeks

POSTED: 3:06 pm EDT October 11, 2008

(Sports Network) - Miami Heat center Jamaal Magloire will reportedly miss at least six to eight weeks after breaking a bone in his left hand in the team's preseason game against the New Jersey Nets in Paris, France on Thursday.

Magloire suffered a fracture of the third metacarpal in his left hand during Thursday's exhibition loss. The 30-year-old center returned to Miami to be evaluated, while the Heat remained overseas to take on the Nets in London, England on Sunday.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Saturday that Magloire has the hand immobilized, and is scheduled to be revaluated next week. The paper said that as long as surgery is not required, Magloire will miss six to eight weeks. If he needs surgery the absence could be longer.

A free-agent acquisition in the offseason, Magloire signed with the Heat after splitting the 2007-08 season between the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks. Magloire averaged 1.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game last season, playing in just 31 contests.

Miami opens its regular season on October 29 in New York against the Knicks. Mark Blount, Joel Anthony, and undrafted rookie free agent David Padgett are the three remaining centers on the Heat roster.
