National Basketball Association Playoff Game Capsules

POSTED: 1:48 am EDT May 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - LeBron James' game-highs of 32 points, 12 rebounds and six assists overcame Cleveland's poor shooting performance, as the Cavaliers held off the Celtics, 74-69, in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at Quicken Loans Arena. Boston connected on a mere 39.7 percent from the field, but will have the ever-so-important home- court advantage for Sunday's deciding Game 7 at TD Banknorth Garden. The host has won all six games in the series. The winner will go on to face the second-seeded Detroit Pistons in the East's finals beginning on Tuesday. Delonte West chipped in 10 points for Cleveland, which ended a three-game losing streak when facing playoff elimination even though the club shot just 32.9 percent from the floor. The Cavs did, however, remedy their free-throw shooting woes by hitting 21- of-25 from the stripe. The Cavs played without backup point guard Daniel Gibson, who missed the game with a left shoulder injury sustained in Game 5. He will also miss Game 7, when the Cavs hope to get a better performance from their only other legitimate three- point threat, Wally Szczerbiak, who went 2-for-11 from the field and hit just 1-of-6 from behind the arc. Kevin Garnett established himself as the Celtics' best offensive option, finishing with team-highs of 25 points and eight rebounds. Paul Pierce was held to 5-of-15 shooting for 16 points, and Ray Allen was once again silenced with a nine-point effort for Boston, which has dropped all six of its away games in the postseason.

Final Score: LA Lakers 108, Utah 105

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant logged a game-high 34 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists, as the Los Angeles Lakers survived a furious rally in the final two minutes to advance into the Western Conference finals with a 108-105 victory over the Utah Jazz in Game 6 at Energy Solutions Arena. Los Angeles heads to the West finals for the first time since 2004, and faces Monday's New Orleans/San Antonio Game 7 winner. Bryant, playing with an injured back suffered in Game 4, truly embodied an MVP with his 12 fourth-quarter points and 15-of-17 effort from the free throw line. His teammates came through as well, as Pau Gasol recorded 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Lamar Odom finished with 13 and 9, as Los Angeles broke the trend by becoming the first team in the series to win a game on the road. Utah's clear home court advantage throughout the season could not help the club overcome its futile 38.1 percent shooting from the field. Williams tallied team-highs of 21 points and 14 assists, Millsap was a spark plug off the bench with 15 points and eight caroms. Boozer finished with just 12 points on 5-of-16 shooting from the field, but finished with a game-high 14 rebounds. The Lakers' win marked just the second road victory for any team in the second round of the playoffs. The host is now 21-2 when playing in front of its faithful.
