CLEVELAND -- Many workers are on edge with all the news about layoffs. But what can you do to protect yourself?

On Your Side Consumer reporter John Matarese said Money magazine suggests that workers raise their profile at work so that managers see them as indispensable.

A few other tips include doing your job well with positive attitude. Make sure your boss knows how hard you work. Make sure his or her boss knows it, too. Also, volunteer for additional duties.
