CLEVELAND - While the summer months may be winding down, the deals on new cars are heating up. Dealerships still have 2011 models on the lots, and the 2012s are rolling in, which adds up to a good time for new car buyers.
It's now closeout and year-end clearance time.
Bonita Swanek and Andrew Proctor both saved thousands of dollars by taking home a new 2011 GMC Terrain from Axelrod in Parma, instead of a 2012.
"We really didn't find too many differences so we were happy to go with either and we got a great deal on the 2011," Proctor said.
"This is absolutely a great time to buy a car," said Chris Marhofer of the Ron Marhofer Auto Family. Marhofer said a lot of models aren't changing much between 2011 and 2012, so customers can get pretty much the same car for a better price
"Pretty much from this month through next month is really the time to come out and take advantage of the deals while there is still a decent inventory available," Marhofer said.
Swanek shopped around for her new car for months, and did compare the 2011 and 2012 GMC Terrain.
"They said it was worth like a thousand dollars more and the stuff that was a difference on there for me I really didn't need," Swanek said.
But if you're thinking about holding out for an even better deal on 2011s, Marhofer points out the selection will start to dwindle.
"I would say, for the most part you, will see incentives stay aggressive until the year's end, but probably nothing too drastic other than what you're seeing now," Marhofer said.
Cars.com does say auto manufacturers did a good job controlling their inventory this year, so there aren't as many blowout deals this season as there have been in years past. Cars.com has a list of some of the incentives on 2011s going on right now at http://5.wews.com/7OX
