LAKEWOOD, Ohio - Jennifer Flasher is a Lakewood mother who is always trying to save a few dollars for her family, so when she found a bargain for a pop-up tent online, she was pleased to make the purchase.
"I was really excited, I really needed one, so I was happy that he called me back and told me that I could have it," said Flasher. "I had to pull some things out of my basement, and reorganize, and I thought what better than a pop-up tent. Then, in the future, I could use it for parties."
However Jennifer quickly discovered her "good deal" was no deal at all when she tried to assemble her new 20' by 10' tent. The tent didn't have a top.
"The top part of my tent was missing, the whole top part of by 10' by 20' tent was gone," explained Flasher. "He gave no call backs, and I was really upset because I really needed it."
Flasher told NewsChannel5 she tried to contact OK Sales in Solon on several occasions, hoping the online store would send her the top to her new tent.
Flasher found the store listed both on Amazon and on Craigslist, but claims the owner of the store gave her nothing but unfulfilled promises.
"He said he was going to have the manufacturer mail it directly to me, it never happened, said Flasher. "He promised that he would can me back several times, it never happened, and he promised he would mail it to me."
NewsChannel5 has made three attempts to reach the owner of OK Sales in Solon, but even the company voicemail is turned off. 5 On Your Side will continue to its efforts to contact the company in the search for a solution.
Consumers should be extremely careful when buying discount items from an online store. Make sure you have adequate contact information so the company can be reached in the event that an item needs to be returned.
If you're picking up the item from a warehouse location, take the time to open the box and determine if all parts are included with the merchandise.
Always check on a companies Better Business Bureau record, and online reviews, before making a buy.
