Boots and Barkley dog treats voluntarily recalled for possible salmonella

CLEVELAND - A popular brand sold at Target is recalling many of its dog treats because of possible salmonella contamination.

Kasel Associated Industries has voluntarily recalled all products made at its Denver plant from April 20, 2012 to Sept. 19, 2012, the company said. That includes Boots and Barkley bones, jerky and pig eats for dogs.

"Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products and humans are at risk for salmonella poisoning from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the pet products or any surfaces exposed to these products," Kasel Associated Industries said in a news release on Thursday.

The company said no illnesses have been reported in connection with these items.
