People with milk allergies or a severe sensitivity run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume Giant Eagle brand Walnut Delight and Pecan Tassie cookies with sell dates through May 3, 2016, according to Giant Eagle.

Pecan Tassie cookies are not only sold in packages, but also in small, medium and large cookie trays in bakery departments.

The product label for the items, which both contain milk, omitted milk as an allergen, Giant Eagle stated.

Giant Eagle said it has voluntarily recalled these products, which are prepared and sold from bakery departments in side Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets.

People in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana made around 44,000 purchases containing the potentially affected Pecan Tassies and around 290 purchases of the potentially affected Walnut Delights, by Giant Eagle's estimate. But it stated that no illnesses have been reported to date that are associated with the recall.

Giant Eagle reported that the Walnut Delights have a PLU of 69690 and were sold in packages of six in plastic clam shells. The Pecan Tassies were in the same type of packaging with a PLU of 77997, those sold in small, medium and large cookie trays with PLUs of 9793, 9794 and 9795 respectively.

The supermarket advises that customers with a milk allergy who have purchased an affected product dispose of it or return it to their local Giant Eagle or Market District store for a refund.

People without milk allergies can safely consume the products, according to Giant Eagle.

The supermarket stated that customers with questions may call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST.
