CLEVELAND - What would a summer be without some good music to celebrate the season? NewsChannel5 is on your side with our Summer Fun Savings series that will be music to your ears and your wallets.
"It's a rock 'n roll party at Edgewater Live!" shouted the band that was on stage. People are rockin' out at Edgewater Park in Cleveland every Thursday night through August. One of the best parts of this concert series that runs 5:30 to 8:30 pm — it's free.
"I think it's awesome and I think all walks of life can enjoy it," said Danielle Melucci from Cleveland, who wasn't the only one singing the praises of the summer-long freebie.
"I think this is fantastic. It's an awesome experience,” said Jacob Holland from Cleveland. “It's good to get people down here on the beach and see what Cleveland has to offer," he added. The atmosphere offers volleyball, sand, food trucks and other refreshments. You can bring your own grub and save some cash.
"It's very nice,” said a woman named Theresa. “It’s a beautiful day out here. Come on down and join us," she suggested with a smile.
You can also take advantage of Wade Oval Wednesdays. "It's just a free family-fun event we come to every year,” said Clevelander LaKisha Holt. “It's just something for the kids to come and play, listen to some good music and watch people," she told us.
Every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through the end of August, there are free concerts that organizers said traditionally have brought in 5,000 fans to enjoy. "(There’s) a different genre of music. From reggae, to folk, Irish rock to Motown, we have something for everyone," said Shelia Obrycki who is the Director of Marketing and Events for University Circle, Inc.
To top off the great deal, bring your own coolers and food to save some cash. Greg Taylor's family did. "University Circle, in general, has a lot going on,” said Taylor. “It's just a great place to be right now. It's a beautiful setting," he told us while sitting on a picnic blanket with is two young children and pregnant wife.
And with such a beautiful price, Melucci figured, why not. "It just brings out everyone to have fun on a Thursday. Listen to some good music. Eat some good food. Play on the sand,” Melucci told us.
There are so many opportunities to catch free concerts this summer. Check out Northeast Ohio Family Fun's Cuyahoga County list below, and click here for dozens more in Lake, Geneva, Ashtabula, Lorain, Summit and more.
