5 tricks stores use to get you to spend more

When you walk into a store, everything is planned with your wallet in mind, according to Money Talks News.  Nothing is left to chance and stores use all kinds of strategies to help their sales.

#1 – Store layout means laying out more cash: Think about when you walk into a store.  What’s right at the entrance?  The most appealing items.  Then take a look to your right.  There’s where the most profitable things the store has to offer are.  We tend to veer right when going into a store for whatever reason. 

#2 – “Racetrack” flooring for “pit stop” purchasing: There’s smooth flooring that takes you “racing” around the store, but when stores want you to stop and take a look for a while, there’s carpeting.  The carpeting makes you feel more relaxed while the smooth, hard floor makes you feel like you should be walking.

#3 – You’ll need a rest by the time you reach the restroom: Stores know what they’re doing when it comes to bathrooms.  They don’t mean to make it a hassle for you to get there, but they put the restrooms in the back of the store to get you to walk through the entire building.  That way you might see something along the way that you can’t wait to get…AFTER you hit the restroom.

#4 – Signs that imply “sale” but really mean “for sale”: A lot of times we think when we see a sign pointing out a product that it’s on sale.  However, stores are putting up more and more general signs to catch your eye for things that are just for sale and there’s no discount involved.

#5 – Special promotions they know you won’t redeem: Rebates offer you money but only if you use them.  Many, many people will buy an item because of the rebate involved but so few actually follow all the steps to get that check in 6-8 weeks.
