CLEVELAND - Hotel rates are going up. Consumer Reports said the average price per room will top $100 this year.
Experts say if you want to save money go online and check the hotel's websites for deals and look online for other options.
"If you really want to save and get the rock-bottom drop dead low rate, do what I do. Use Hotwire, Priceline's name your own price program, or use Travelocity's top secret hotels," said Tod Marks of Consumer Reports. "They don't reveal the name of the hotel until after you've committed to purchasing that room for a given night."
If you can't book ahead online, Consumer Reports suggests trying out a new app for smartphones called Hotel Tonight. It gives you hotel deals in 30 cities.
