CLEVELAND - It's a big travel weekend, with nearly 3% more people hitting the road this Labor Day. AAA said the average trip will be 60 miles. High gas prices are not keeping people from hitting the road. Joe Daugirdas, also known as Joe the Coupon Guy , has ways you can save on that trip.
Gas rewards programs are gaining in popularity and are now at stores like Acme and Kmart. Marc's even has a deal with Speedway.
Acme is offering $3.00 in Fuel Rewards if you spend $25 on meat and seafood.
Make sure you read the fine print on these rewards and clubs before signing up or buying products. Make sure there's not a minimum purchase of gas, or do what Daugirdas does and buy spare gas tanks. That way he collects the maximum savings and uses the deeply discounted gas later.
Other stores help you save on gas or earn rewards with gift cards. If you buy certain ones, you can earn so much off per gallon of gas.
Daugirdas also does his homework before he hits the road. He checks the prices of gas on Gas Buddy , so he knows the cheapest places to fill up along his route.
Wherever your travels take you this weekend, there are ways to save. Have a safe travel weekend.
