CLEVELAND - Well-paying jobs might not be as hard to find as you may think.
According to new research by CareerBuilder, thousands of positions are open. The problem is finding the right people to fill them.
The Chicago-based company surveyed more than 2,000 hiring managers and human resource professionals nationwide. It found more than 35 percent of employers currently have positions that have remained open for 12 weeks or longer.
Brent Rasmussen, president of CareerBuilder North America, said, "Although the recession created an abundant pool of readily available, unemployed talent that still exists today, employers are struggling to find new employees for technology-related occupations, sales, healthcare and a variety of other areas."
Among the jobs that were cited as the most difficult to fill: sales representatives, production workers, nurses, truck drivers, software developers, engineers, marketing professionals, accountants, mechanics and IT managers/network administrators.
Rasmussen said people are not applying for the positions and the people sending in applications are lacking the skills needed.
"The skills gap that exists for high-growth, specialized occupations will become even more pronounced in the years to come, prompting the need to place a greater emphasis on re-skilling workers through formal education and on-the-job training," he explained.
