George Forbes Mentioned In Workers' Comp Investment Scandal

$215 Million Lost After Investments

POSTED: 7:09 pm EDT June 8, 2005

A prominent Clevelander has been mentioned in connection with the investigation into $215 million lost from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, including $10 million from an investment in rare coins.

George Forbes, former Cleveland Council president and current president of the Cleveland NAACP, was mentioned in this Wednesday's Plain Dealer report.

Forbes is a Bureau of Workers' Compensation board member and his daughter, Mimi, is human resources director at MDL, the firm that invested the bureau's money.

MDL's chief executive officer insists Forbes played no role in the investment firm's hiring of Mimi Forbes.

Forbes did not respond to NewsChannel5's attempt to contact him for comment.

However, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Workers' Compensation says the situation is being looked into.
