Job Scam Targets Teens With Promises Of 'Travel,' 'Fun'
Experts Say Door-To-Door Sales Jobs Can Be Dangerous

CLEVELAND -- Many high school and college kids are looking for jobs this summer, but On Your Side Troubleshooter warned that they should be careful where they go for employment.
Although summer jobs are scarce this year, there's one ad in particular from All-Star Promotions from which teens should steer away.
The ad is found in local newspapers and says "Travel. Money. Fun. All expenses paid and earn college cash." Although it sounds good, the Akron Better Business Bureau told Five On Your Side the jobs are most likely door-to-door sales jobs.
The company apparently drops teens off in neighborhoods to sell perfume, magazines, or candy, and then crams them in a hotel room and keeps a portion of the money made.
The BBB said there is not much to gain but plenty of opportunity for danger. There have been many horror stories about traveling sales groups, including kids being stranded away from home or assaulted. Also, some cities require permits for door-to-door soliciting, and teens could be arrested for not having them.
Parents should always research a company before they allow their children to work for it. All-Star Promotions is based out of Texas and has an unsatisfactory record with the BBB.
