Superintendent Looks To Close Local High School

POSTED: 8:07 am EST November 18, 2009
UPDATED: 9:04 am EST November 18, 2009

The superintendent of Lorain Schools reportedly wants to close a high school.

The Chronicle Telegram reported Admiral King Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson wants to get input from the community on which of the two high schools should close -- Lorain Admiral King on Ashland Avenue or Lorain Southview on East 42nd Street.

Voters rejected a levy attempt to raise more money for the district, forcing officials to look at several ways to cut cost for the upcoming school year.

The closure is part of a plan to fix the $9 million deficit the district faces in 2011.
