CLEVELAND -- Sometimes a product is more enticing when it comes with a rebate, especially when that rebate is $200.
But one Euclid, Ohio, viewer said he never received the promised rebate on his new cell phone, so he called Troubleshooter Chris Caswell.
Jim Hammerhoffer wanted a top-of-the-line cell phone, but he wouldn't pay full price. His friend alerted him to a deal on the newest Sony phone online at Amazon.com.
"These Sony T68I's -- these things are great!" Hammerhoffer said. "But they were like $400 to $500 when you go to any of the kiosks in the malls or the stores."
When Amazon.com offered a $200 rebate, Hammerhoffer bought two phones -- one for himself and one for his girlfriend. The phones come with all kinds of fun and games, as well as computer hook-ups.
"You can literally chat with somebody and just send messages," he said.
But after four months, Hammerhoffer was still waiting for his rebate.
"You feel useless," he said. "It's like, 'OK, I'm being taken for. Why are they offering this kind of stuff?'"
Hammerhoffer's receipt stated to check rebates.com for his status, but there was never a record of his rebate.
Then, he called Five On Your Side, which e-mailed Amazon.com.
"It was very quick," Hammerhoffer said. "Within a day -- next day -- (we were) getting e-mails from them."
A few weeks later, he received two checks, totaling $400.
"Wow! Finally! I'm very happy, very excited and glad I called you guys," he said.
Amazon.com did not answer as to why the rebate took so long.
