Newspaper Lets Unemployed Submit Free 'Hire Me' Ads

CLEVELAND -- A local newspaper wants to help people find jobs, and in Sunday's edition of the News Herald and online, unemployed people can submit a free "hire me" advertisements."It's actually something our publisher suggested that they did back in the '70s at the height of unemployment that he had worked at that time," said executive editor Tricia Ambrose.Video resumes will also be posted on the News Herald's Web site.Shawn Roberts is an analytical chemist. She was working for a pharmaceutical company before she lost her job in January because of cuts.Now she's trying to maximize her chances of landing a job."Anything to get me maximum exposure. Someone might see me and give me a chance," said Roberts.Diane Schwab is hoping a hire-me ad will get her out of the unemployment line. The administrative supervisor lost her job three weeks ago.The Lake County manufacturing company where she worked for 16 years cut a third of its workforce."I feel with unemployment over 8 percent, the more exposure, possibly the better off you'll be," said Schwab.The deal is for the May 17 edition only.
