Ask 5 Questions Before Joining Gym

January is the biggest month for joining health clubs, and with the economy in recession, gyms are rolling out more deals than ever this year.

But Smart Money Magazine and consumer groups said there are five things you need to ask before committing yourself to a membership, NewsChannel5's John Matarese reported.

One, ask if you might qualify for an employer discount based on where you work.

Two, ask if there are extra fees for aerobics, trainers or child care.

Three, ask if your membership automatically renews each year.

Four, ask what happens if you want to cancel.

And five, ask if you still have to pay if you move away, get injured or lose your job.

With more job losses expected, gyms may be more willing to work with you.
