GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A mother says a swarming beehive kept an entire Garfield Heights neighborhood buzzing with fear.

Residents contacted Troubleshooter Joe Pagonakis to help get rid of the hive.

"Very scary, with a 2-year-old, I don't know if he's allergic yet," said resident Nicole Ice.

She had a swarm of bees on her front porch. Ice said the bees have tormented her children over the past three months, and kept her neighborhood on alert.

"From the front porch of my house was a complete black cloud of bees. You couldn't see. People were rolling up their windows really fast," Ice said.

Nicole said she called five exterminators to care of the bees. But honeybees are dwindling in numbers and the exterminators were wary of making a house call to eliminate them.

Pagonakis called Chuck Kettler with Central Exterminating. Kettler said in some cases, a beekeeper can be called in to collect the insects.

He said if honeybees are threatening children or the homeowner, they can be eliminated.

Ice was happy to get her porch back.

Professionals say if the hive is larger than 2 inches in diameter, if you can't see the hive, or if the hive is in a dangerous spot inside or near your home, call an exterminator.
