Scam Artists Prey On Ohio Flood Victims

Scammers Claim To Be From FEMA, Ask For Personal Information

UPDATED: 7:24 pm EDT August 29, 2007

Some northern Ohio residents are still cleaning up from flooding, and now there is a new threat of scam artists.

Authorities said flood victims are getting calls from people claiming to be from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and asking for personal information.

People should not give out any information to these callers. FEMA only contacts people who have applied for assistance to schedule a time to look at the damage.

When FEMA representatives come out to your home, they will have an agency identification card with them.
