Homeowners' Associations File Lawsuit Against MultiVest

CLEVELAND -- A lawsuit was filed Thursday after millions of dollars in homeowners' association fees went missing.Twelve associations are suing MultiVest Property Management and its owners, James and Kathleen Desalvo.The company had more than 50 associations as clients.The suit alleges that the Desalvos "engaged in a pattern of corrupt, illegal and fraudulent activities … misappropriating and converting funds to their benefit without the authorization or knowledge of plaintiffs."The associations believe that the damages exceed $2 million.The FBI is investigating MultiVest, but no arrests have been made.Lawyers said homeowners should still pay their March assocation fees, but should call the association, and should not pay MultiVest.If you've been paying by electronic transfer, stop that payment and pay by check.Maintenance companies for these homes are being told they will get paid according to their contract obligations despite MultiVest's frozen accounts.
