Red-Hot Twins Hope To Keep Rolling Versus Indians

(Sports Network) - The Minnesota Twins hope to keep their recent hot streak going this evening, as the resurgent club continues a three-game home series against a Cleveland Indians squad desperate to end a six-game slide.

The Twins will send Kevin Slowey to the hill tonight. The righty is 5-6 this season with a 3.47 ERA, and has been particularly impressive recently. Last time out, Slowey tossed a three-hit shutout against the Brewers. He now has a 0.43 ERA in his last three outings with 19 strikeouts and only two walks.

Slowey has yet to face the Indians this season and pitched well in his only career appearance against Cleveland.

Expected to get the start for Cleveland tonight is lefty Aaron Laffey, who has an impressive 3.24 ERA despite a 4-5 record. Laffey is winless in his last three outings with a 4.58 ERA over that stretch.

Laffey surrendered only one run in six innings against the Twins earlier this season. He is 1-1 lifetime against Minnesota.

On Friday, Delmon Young went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and finished with four runs driven in, and Nick Punto hit a solo home run while also driving in four runs, as the Twins crushed the Indians, 12-3, in the opener of a three-game set from the Metrodome.

Justin Morneau went 2-for-3 with two doubles, scored twice and had two RBI for the Twins, who have won three in a row, four of five and eight of their last 10 overall.

Livan Hernandez (9-5) took the win as he hurled six innings and was touched for just three runs on five hits.

Kelly Shoppach went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Tribe, who have dropped eight of their last 10 contests overall.

Paul Byrd (3-10) took the loss as he was roughed up for six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.

The Twins have amassed an impressive 16-3 record since June 13, a surge that has vaulted them to within one game of the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central standings. Most of that damage has come at home, where Minnesota has won 11 of its last 13 games and owns an outstanding 30-18 mark at the Metrodome this season

Minnesota is 4-3 against Cleveland so far in 2008, with the Twins taking two of three from the Indians in Minnesota back in April. Cleveland went 7-2 at the Metrodome during its march to the division title last year.
