Indians Option Sowers, Call Up Former First-Rounder Aubrey

POSTED: 11:14 am EDT May 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians optioned pitcher Jeremy Sowers to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, calling up former first-round pick infielder Michael Aubrey to fill out their roster.

Sowers made his second spot-start of the season on Friday night, giving up five hits and three runs over five innings, but did not factor into the decision.

The club's first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2003 draft, Aubrey will be making his debut at the Major League level. He began the season at Double-A Akron before he was promoted to Buffalo on May 2. Aubrey hit safely in nine of 11 games with the Bisons and sported a gaudy .341 batting average with four doubles and five runs batted in.
