MLB Game Summary - Cleveland At Cincinnati

POSTED: 10:28 pm EDT May 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - Brandon Phillips hit a two-run home run and scored the winning run as the Cincinnati Reds opened a three-game interleague set against the Cleveland Indians with a 4-3 win.

Adam Dunn hit a solo homer and forced in the game-winner while David Weathers (1-2) got the win for pitching a scoreless inning for the Reds, who have a season-high four-game win streak. Johnny Cueto had a no-hitter through five innings and finished the contest charged with three runs on three hits, with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts, in six innings of work.

Casey Blake, Travis Hafner and Jhonny Peralta each hit a solo home run for the Indians, who had a three-game winning streak stopped. Jensen Lewis (0-2) was handed the loss while Jeremy Sowers was charged with three runs on five hits in five innings of work.

With the score tied in the eighth, the Reds took the lead in the bottom of the frame.

With one out, Lewis took the mound and promptly loaded the bases on a walk to Phillips, a bloop double by Joey Votto and another walk to Edwin Encarnacion. Dunn then forced in Phillips on a walk for a 4-3 lead.

Francisco Cordero retired the Indians in order in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.

Cleveland's starting pitchers came into the game with 50 1/3 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run. The Reds, though, quickly put a stop to that as Ken Griffey Jr. worked a two-out walk in the first and Phillips followed with a blast into the upper deck of the left field seats for a 2-0 lead.

The Reds made it a 3-0 game in the second as Dunn crushed a pitch that cleared the stadium along the right-field side.

Cueto cruised through the first five innings as he only issued one walk. The Indians, though, got to him in the sixth with three solo home runs to tie the game. Blake led off the frame with a shot that just cleared the center field wall. Hafner, pinch-hitting for Sowers, followed with a shot that hit off the right field foul pole. After Cueto got Grady Sizemore to ground out, Peralta followed with a homer to right-center that tied the game.
