Nats' Belliard Exits With Groin Strain

POSTED: 12:59 am EDT September 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Washington Nationals infielder Ronnie Belliard left Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves with a right groin strain.

Belliard pulled up lame when beating out an infield single in the seventh inning. He clutched his right leg after hitting the bag and limped to the dugout under his own power.

Belliard is expected to undergo an MRI on Friday to confirm the significance of the injury, which can potentially end his season.

Kory Casto came in to pinch run for Belliard, who was 3-for-3 in the game, increasing his batting average to .287 on the season.
