Nationals, Guzman Agree To Two-Year Extension

Washington, DC -- (Sports Network) - The Nationals and Cristian Guzman agreed to a two-year contract extension Tuesday that will keep the shortstop in Washington through the 2010 season.The 30-year-old shortstop was Washington's lone representative at this season's All-Star Game. Guzman leads the National League with 129 hits and has compiled a team-best .307 average to go with 56 runs scored and 26 doubles. Guzman spent the first six years of his career with the Minnesota Twins before signing a free agent contract with Washington in 2004. He missed the entire 2006 season with a right shoulder injury, but hit .328 a year ago in 46 games. Over his career, Guzman has recorded a .268 average with 193 doubles, 76 triples, 368 RBI and 114 stolen bases in 1,125 games.
