POSTED: 2:22 pm EDT October 30, 2009

(Sports Network) - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team is once again atop the Associated Press poll to start the upcoming season.

The Huskies, who went 39-0 and won their sixth national championship in 2008-09, received all 40 first-place votes and 1,000 points from a nationwide media panel to earn the top spot in the preseason poll for the second straight year and seventh time overall.

Stanford, which lost to UConn in the national semifinals last season, was voted second and earned 951 points, while Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina completed the top five teams.

Duke is the sixth-ranked team, followed by Baylor, Tennessee, LSU and Michigan State.

Xavier leads off the second 10 and is followed by Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia and Florida State. Arizona State, DePaul, California, Georgia Tech and Kansas finish the top 20.

The last five teams ranked are Georgia, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State and Rutgers. Louisville was last year's NCAA Tournament runner-up.
