Do Breast Self-Exam Every 5th Of Month

No matter how you look at it, breast cancer is scary, but it doesn't have to be deadly. The more you learn about breast cancer, the more you'll realize how important it is to catch it early.

I'm personally committed to helping NewsChannel5 viewers learn that. My mom caught her breast cancer very early because of a mammogram. I'm so glad she was informed.

Loving Partners is all about helping each other by reminding our friends and family how important it is to find breast cancer early.

On the 5th of every month, with the help of our partner, University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center, I'll introduce you to a local survivor who is living proof that breast cancer does NOT have to be a death sentence. You can see that story Live On Five.

Loving Partners I'll also be passing out information and shower cards during lunchtime on the 5th at various Giant Eagle stores throughout the area.

The 5th is also the time we should remind each other to do a breast self-exam, that day, or five days after your cycle. Especially for younger women who are not getting mammograms yet, self exam may be the only way you'll find breast cancer. Of course, every time you get a physical, your doctor should be doing an exam as well, but it's important for you to do them every month as well.

When we say "On Your Side", we mean it. If you have any questions about breast cancer, call our Loving Partners Hotline at University Hospitals.

The number is 1-800-641-2422. If you have any comments or suggestions about Loving Partners, please feel free to e-mail me at booth@newsnet5.com

Thanks for watching and supporting our efforts to spread the word about the importance of early detection.

Sincerely, Alicia Booth
