Steeple bell ringer heals through music

BOSTON - The bell ringer inside Boston's historic Arlington Street Unitarian Universalist Church says she hopes the city recovering from the marathon bombings is comforted by her music, as she is.
Eighty-five-year-old Mary O'Kane has been playing patriotic tunes such as "America the Beautiful" along with hymns from the 199-foot steeple two blocks down from the site of Monday's bombings.
She said Thursday that she hoped President Barack Obama would hear and be comforted by the music as he visited the city to attend at a service at a nearby Catholic cathedral.
O'Kane has been playing the 16-bell carillon since 1981. She was at her home on Beacon Hill reading a book when the pressure-cooker bombs exploded, killing three people and wounding nearly 200 more.
