OKLAHOMA CITY - Leaders of an Oklahoma megachurch, with multiple campuses in the Oklahoma City area, say dozens of families who are members have lost their homes to Monday's massive tornado.
It struck just south of the city and only a few miles from the South Oklahoma City campus of LiveChurch.tv. The pastor who oversees the church's Oklahoma ministries, Pastor Chris Beall, says volunteers have been trying to contact the more than 5,000 members who may have been affected. It's been difficult because of damage to phone lines and cell towers.
Beall says the church is operating "on muscle memory" because of previous storm damage and the Oklahoma City bombing. He says there's been an overwhelming response of donations and volunteers and that the needs of members and other victims will be met.
Beall say people have questions when such storms occur but the focus of the church right now is responding "with shovels and with bottles of water." Sunday services at church campuses across Oklahoma and in others states will include a time for grief and a celebration of miracles.
