CLEVELAND - There was a national celebrity who made a public appearance in Cleveland tonight. But it wasn’t a Hollywood superstar or a sports phenom.
It was a rescued dog and his owner. The owner told her famous pup's story, in hopes that she can help save the lives of other abandoned animals.
"Tuna Melts My Heart” may not be the cutest dog around, but, hey, that doesn't matter. He has his own national speaking, uh, barking tour.
Tuna, as he's called for short, is a three-year-old Chihuahua-Dachshund mix. And, he's the epitome of an underdog. He’s got one heck of an overbite, a funky looking jawline and don't forget his wrinkly neck.
Tuna's owner, Courtney Dasher, and a northeast Ohio native adopted him at a California farmer's market. He had been abandoned along the roadside and an animal rescue group was trying to find him a home.
Little did Dasher know what she was giving Tuna was more than love and shelter.
Tuna has his own web page and Instagram account with nearly 400,000 followers. And when the founders of Instagram posted Tuna's photo, he was an instant celebrity.
His cartoonish looks and his charming personality have also led to his own line of clothes and cell phone covers. But Dasher says it's not about the fame. “Tuna is giving a voice to the abandoned and mistreated animals not only in the United States, and proceeds from this tour will help local animal shelters, including here in Cleveland."
