Geneva the Dog finds a home with Marine Corps veteran of the Iraq War

CHARDON, Ohio - Geneva the Dog’s rough ride may finally be over after three years.

In March, NewsChannel5 told you about the spunky pup’s difficult journey from cancer and abandonment to looking for a new home after she lost her loving owner.

After a long search, Geneva has a new dad. He’s Marine Corps war veteran Ian Welch, who is recovering from PTSD and traumatic brain injury suffered while serving his country in Iraq.

Despite no known training as a “therapy dog”, Geneva has helped comfort Ian when he’s suffered anxiety attacks.

After Geneva was rescued from the Cleveland Metro Parks—where she’d been abandoned, was flea-infested and barely able to walk—Carol Peter of Cold Nose Companions trained her to pick up things.

Geneva used that skill to help her last owner, who recently passed away.

Now she’s in a loving home with a dedicated advocate for providing veterans with service dogs, helping him every way she knows how.
