Love Your Heart on Valentine's Day

Doctors take calls, live chat about heart health

Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in America. But there are a surprising number of misconceptions about heart disease, heart health and even the symptoms of a serious cardiac event.

Today during Live On Five, you can talk to one of the Cleveland Clinic cardiologists on our "Love Your Heart" phone bank. Or, you can take part in a live web chat with doctors.

Should you take supplements such as fish oil? The treatment protocols have changed, and fish oil is no longer recommended for everyone.

Instead, Cleveland Clinic Dr. Steven Nissen said, “Exercise, eating right, controlling your blood pressure, not smoking and lowering your cholesterol – if it’s elevated – doing all those things will lower your risk of heart disease by 50 percent.”

The numbers to call beginning at 5 p.m. on Valentine’s Day are 216-431-3805 or 800-658-5370.
