You might be thinking of throwing a rack of ribs in the smoker or on the grill for the Memorial Day cookout (or anytime this summer). You do not have to be a professional barbecue pit master to give your ribs "BIG" flavor. What you will need are some spices you probably already have in your kitchen cabinets.
A dry rub is a combination of spices applied to your rack of ribs before cooking. This particular rub works well on other cuts of pork, and chicken, too. The rub will add flavor, and that flavor will continue to build during the cooking process. Here is the basic recipe:
- ¼ cup paprika
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cayenne
- ¼ cup brown sugar
Mix them all together. That is it.
Coat your ribs with the rub, and well, rub it in. Then cook the ribs in whatever fashion you usually do, though over low heat is usually recommended. Hit it with your favorite barbecue sauce, and you will be the hero of the holiday cookout.
