Federal health regulations force famous pink cookies out of Elyria school cafeterias

ELYRIA, Ohio - For 40 years the pink cookie dominated school cafeterias in the Elyria City School District, but the legendary cookie got the boot this year due to new federal nutritional requirements.

The cookie, which contains real butter, exceeded the number of calories allowed per a la carte item, according to the National School Lunch Program.

In 2009, the pink cookie was dubbed as Cleveland Magazine's "Best Cafeteria Cookie."

The sweet treat can still be enjoyed at home or for a big event for $8 a dozen. Call Elyria Sodexo Foodservice at 440-284-8287 to place an order.
