2017 fish fry guide in Northeast Ohio during the Lenten season

Cleveland has a large number of restaurants and churches hosting fish frys during the Lent season.

News 5 compiled a list of favorite spots listed by viewers and parish listings. From restaurants to churches, we've got you covered.

1. Prosperity Social Club: 1109 Starkweather Avenue, Cleveland. (216)-937-1938

Coined as 'Its Gotta Haddock" Lenten Fish Fry, Prosperity Social Club is offering a fish from Friday, March 3 to Friday, April 14. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner is from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

2. Brennan's Fish House: 102 River Street Grand River, Ohio (440) 354-9785 

Over 150 years old, Brennan's Fish House takes advantage of what Lake Erie has to offer. They serve Lake Erie Perch and Walleye during fish frys. Dinners come with their house made creamy cole slaw and french fries. Dinners range from $10.75 to $16.75.

3. St. Albert the Great: 6667 Wallings Road, North Royalton, Ohio (440) 237- 6760

Every Friday starting from March 1 through April 7, St. Albert the Great is offering fish fry dinner that includes beer battered cod, two sides, bread and butter, and a beverage for $8 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Other features include fresh perch, shrimp, pierogies, and cabbage and noodles. Proceeds benefit St. Albert the Great's  Justice and Compassion Mission.

4. ElCarnicero:16918 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood Ohio (216)-226-3415

Have you ever had a Latin fish fry? If you haven't, it's time to check out the Dos Equis battered fish at El Carnicero. It's served with potato fries and a chimichurri sauce and chipotle tartar sauce for that extra spice. They're served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. during Lent.

 

5. St. Mary's Parish:320 Middle Avenue Elyria, Ohio (440)-323-5539

Pierogi lunches are back at St. Mary's Parish. For $6, you can get 5 Sophie's Choice pierogies with salad, a roll, and a beverage. Lunches start on March 1 and go until April 7.

6. St. Gabriel Church: 925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd, Mentor, OH 4406

Going into their 18th year, St. Gabriel is holding their annual fish fry from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This fish fry is all you can eat for adults and children. Adults are $14 and children above 12 are $6.The menu includes delicious baked and battered cod, breaded shrimp, homemade seafood chowder, and other kid-friendly fares such as macaroni and cheese, pizza, pasta, with a variety of delicious side dishes and desserts. There is also a carry-out menu and an a la carte menu.

7. Fish Shack and Grill: 3156 W 25th Cleveland, OH 44109 (216)-661-7225
 
Located off the beaten path in Ohio City, Fish Shack and Grill is a favorite among those who know about it and appreciate its laid back charm and deep-fried fish. Customers can order fried walleye, catfish, ocean perch and crab cakes.

 
8. Wexler's Tavern and Eatery: 4555 State Road, Cleveland Ohio (216) 398-5000
 
Here you can get fish frys all-year-long. Chef Mike offers prime cut cod, walleye or perch. They all come with fries and coleslaw. For $3.49, you can get a side of pierogis. For those cold days, he also offers New England Clam Chowder.

9. St. John Bosco: 6480 Pearl Rd Parma Heights (440)- 886-3500

Catered by Bruno's Ristorante, St. John Bosco is serving beer battered or broiled Alaskan Pollack and pierogis. If you don't like fish, there will eggplant parmesan and manicotti. There will also be pizza, mac and cheese, and coleslaw. Dinners will be served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Friday through April 14.

10. St. Michael's Church: 6540 Brecksville Road, Independence Ohio (216)-524-1394

From March 3 through April 7, the public can choose from shrimp dinner, fried or baked cod dinner, pierogi dinner. All dinners are $9.00 that include french fries, homemade cole slaw, applesauce, a bun, and a beverage.

11. St Agnus and Our Lady of Fatima: 6800 Lexington Avenue, Cleveland Ohio (216)-391-1655

Customers can choose between two types of fish: Tilapia for $12.00 or Catfish for $10.00. In addition, there are two choices of sides from the option such as macaroni and cheese, french fries, cole slaw, and applesauce. The annual fish fry will happen on every Friday during Lent until April 7.

12. Sokolowski University Inn: 1201 University Road, Cleveland (216)-771-9236

While they don't have a designated fish fry, they serve a plethora of options of fried fish and even meat options for those who don't partake in Lent. For dinner on Friday, you can choose from pan-seared salmon, grilled rainbow trout, tempura shrimp, fresh pan seared walleye, and Maryland Crab Cakes. This establishment serves classic dishes and European dishes to Clevelanders since 1923.

13. Blessed Trinity Fish Fry: 14040 Puritas Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio  44135, (216)-671-5890.

Blessed Trinity Parish will hold Lenten Fish Fries again this year. We will be serving dinner from 5:30-7:30 pm every Friday during Lent except Good Friday. We offer a choice of Walleye, Sole, Baked Salmon, Shrimp and Combo dinners. We also offer pierogies, cabbage and noodles, rice and beans, macaroni and cheese, and clam chowder and more. Dinner prices start at $6.00 and go up to $14.00.

14. St Ambrose Parish: 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick (330)-460-7300

Coined as the friendliest fish fry by its parishioners, Father Bob will have the following specials every Friday through April 14.

15. Jennings Center For Older Adults: 10204 Granger Road, Garfield Heights (216)-581-2900

On the menu is baked lemon pepper cod and beer battered pollack. Sides include macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, clam chowder, a hot vegetable, and bread. Fish Frys will be held every Friday through April 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., except March 17 because of St. Patrick's Day.

16. West Park Veterans of Foreign Wars: 3791 West 150th Street, Cleveland (216) 671-5849

This menu is jam packed with some tasty goods. Beginning Friday through April 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. all you can eat Alaskan Pollack dinners will be served with fries, homemade coleslaw and a roll with butter as sides all for $10. Also on the menu are pierogi dinners, macaroni and cheese and homemade candy.
