5 Tips For Improving Your Skin

With all the makeover shows and obsession with looking younger, most of us are trying to find ways to accomplish that without surgery or huge bills.

Beachwood dermatologist Lydia Parker said there are some easy steps you can take yourself to help your skin look great.

She said after a daily cleanser, start your day with a great antioxidant, like COQ10 which helps repair skin damage and prevent future damage.

The second step is sunscreen. Parker said, "Don't leave without your sunblock, and my favorite is zinc oxide natural mineral block, with no artificial chemicals. It gives the best protection."

Next, to reduce the effects of aging on skin, look for hyaluronic acid.

"It's actually same stuff injected into wrinkles, in Restylane and Juvederm. It's a dewy fluid in skin; when applied to surface it'll plump fine lines, moisturizing better than anything," said Parker.

Retinol is fourth on the list. Vitamin A derivatives are proven anti-aging antioxidants. Prescription strength is strongest, but can be irritating. Retinol helps smooth fine lines, tighten pores and keep skin tone even.

Finally for smooth skin, look for human growth factor. "These are naturally present in baby skin. They will super-boost skin to firm and rejuvenate," she said.
