There are hundreds of exhibits at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but did you know about all the classes offered every week to students in the greater Cleveland area?

Once a week the museum hosts a program called Toddler Rock for 3 - 5-year-olds. More than 4,000 youth have graduated from the program since it began in 1999. The program teaches socialization and literacy skills through the help of music therapists.

The Rock Hall also teaches distance learning classes to more than 30 states and more than five countries. There are classes in English as well as Spanish.

The Rock Hall has a program called Meet the Instruments for kids in kindergarten through fourth grade. It gives children an opportunity to learn about the many different instruments, the "families" they belong in, and how artists use those instruments to make music. They also learn about historic performances by Hall of Fame inductees.

The Rock Hall offers free public programs with artists and other music industry insiders at least once a month. In fact, The Hall of Fame series "Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits" brought in Little Anthony and the Imperials and the director of Cadillac Records, Darnell Martin, this past month. The Community Festival Series also offers free performances of local and national acts six times a year.

High school students take part in a program called "The Message: Hip Hop Culture." Seniors from Villa Angela St. Joseph, Marion C. Setlzer, Villaview Lighthouse Community School participate in this class that introduces them to this genre of music.

Lauren Onkey, the vice president of education for the Rock Hall, said the Rock Hall's education outreach has applications for any core curriculum. It gets students asking questions and learning how music has changed history.

The Rock Hall also teaches teachers. Every year an opportunity for a week in residence learning takes place for teachers all across the country. Educators learn how to electrify their core curriculum of math, science and history with music.
