Investigation: 250 Lawyers Accused Of Misconduct

POSTED: 2:40 pm EST February 12, 2008
UPDATED: 10:59 am EST February 13, 2008

Attorneys are supposed to pursue truth and justice.

Instead, NewsChannel5 investigative reporter Ron Regan found Ohio lawyers accused of being crooks.

Regan found lawyers convicted of stealing from clients, looting bank accounts and pilfering estates.

He chased down some of the accused attorneys and asked them tough questions.

The 5 On Your Side investigation dug deep into court documents, prison records and attorneys' disciplinary files, finding nearly 250 lawyers involved in serious misconduct in the past two years.

Twenty-five lawyers had been disbarred, 114 were suspended and 16 attorneys were convicted of felonies, NewsChannel5 reported.

A special state fund paid out more than $11 million to Ohians ripped off by crooked lawyers, Regan reported.
