Indians' Cabrera, Perez Undergo Surgery

POSTED: 12:36 pm EDT October 8, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians announced that infielder Asdrubal Cabrera and pitcher Chris Perez both underwent a surgical procedure on Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic Sports Center.

Cabrera had loose bodies removed during a 30-minute right elbow arthroscopy performed by Dr. Mark Schickendantz. The 23-year-old will remain in Cleveland for the next 4-to-6 weeks and will begin his normal offseason strength and conditioning program in December.

Perez had a procedure done on his left ankle to remove a loose bone and a cyst. He will also be able to begin his offseason conditioning program on schedule.

Cabrera enjoyed a breakout season in 2009, hitting .308 with six homers and 68 runs batted in over 131 games.

Perez, 24, joined the Indians in June through a trade that sent Mark DeRosa to the Cardinals. In 61 combined appearances for the two clubs this season, he went 1-2 with two saves and a 4.26 earned run average.
