Indians, Red Sox Wrap Up Set At Fenway

(Sports Network) - Eric Wedge manages his final game for the Cleveland Indians this afternoon when they wrap up their season against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The Indians announced earlier in the week that Wedge and his staff would not be returning next season. Wedge, though, agreed to stay on until the end of the season.

"I felt it was important for us to handle this the right way," Wedge said. "It was important for us to do that, and I think we have. When [Sunday] comes and goes, we'll move on to the next chapter."

Cleveland continued to stumble towards the finish line on Saturday, as Victor Martinez hit a grand slam to cap a seven-run second inning and Boston used an early flurry of offense to roll to an 11-6 win. Brian Anderson finished 3- for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI for the Red Sox, who have won the first three games in the series following a six-game losing skid.

Dustin Pedroia and Dusty Brown added a solo homer each to aid Josh Beckett (17-6), who got the win despite allowing seven hits and four runs over five innings.

Shin-Soo Choo had a two-run blast and knocked in three runs for the Indians, who have dropped four in a row and five of six. Travis Hafner added two RBI in the setback.

Cleveland has also dropped 14 straight on the road and hasn't won away from home since beating Baltimore back on August 29. No major league team has lost 15 consecutive road games within one season since the Seattle Mariners from June 22-July 28, 2004.

Aaron Laffey (7-9) lasted two innings in the loss, tagged for seven hits and eight runs.

The Red Sox hand the ball to righty Clay Buchholz, who is 7-4 with a 3.74 ERA. Buchholz lost for the first time in seven decisions on Tuesday against Toronto, which lit him up for seven runs and eight hits in five innings.

Buchholz has never faced the Tribe.

Cleveland, meanwhile, turns to Tomo Ohka, who will be making his first start since July 18. He is 0-4 in his five starts this season with a 6.51 ERA. He is 1-4 on the year overall with a 5.45 ERA.

Boston is 5-2 against the Indians this season.
