Indians To Recall INF Cabrera From Minors

POSTED: 2:35 pm EDT July 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians are expected to recall infielder Asdrubal Cabrera from Triple-A Buffalo before Friday's series-opening game against the Seattle Mariners.

After hitting .283 in 45 games a season ago, Cabrera has suffered through a season-long slump, hitting just .184 with one home run and 14 runs batted in through 52 games. Cabrera was hitless in nine at-bats in his last four games before being sent to the minors.

In 34 games with the Bisons, however, the 22-year old hit .326 with four home runs, seven double and 13 RBI, and will likely resume his everyday position at second base upon his return to the Indians.

Cleveland optioned infielder Jorge Velandia to Buffalo in order to make room for Cabrera. In seven games with the Tribe this season, Velandia was 3-for-8 at the plate with a walk, double and a run scored.
