AKRON, Ohio -- Some local families had special airfare out of Akron-Canton Airport to Myrtle Beach, S.C. only to learn they've been grounded because the airline can't afford the gas. Southern Skyways told travelers in a statement that if they booked to Myrtle Beach they will have to find another way to get there because they're out of cash for gas. The Kovach and Holbert families booked their trips together for $525 for each family round trip with kids flying free. They said this was going to be a family vacation filled with memories. Now they aren't sure they're going anymore.. "I'm really sad the airlines got canceled and we can't fly," said Amber Kovach. "You advertise so heavily on the radio and so heavily on TV and the newspaper that finally you get a bunch of people that want to fly and it's a great deal and you just turn your back and say, 'Forget it. We're not going anymore,'" said Cara Holbert. Southern Skyways did negotiate an $89 flight with another smaller airline for consumers, but they only fly out of Columbus and Pittsburgh. The families said paying for the ride to either airport isn't worth it. One family figured out it's going to cost them at least $500 in gas to drive to Mytrle Beach.
