A motorist on Interstate 480 died Thursday night after being hit by a car that crossed into oncoming traffic, officials said.

Police said Francis Clark, 40, of Oakwood Village, was driving east through Garfield Heights at about 10:30 p.m.

Witnesses said a car heading westbound lost control, crashed into the cement median near Broadway Avenue and then crossed the grass median and ended up in the the eastbound lanes. That car struck Clark's pickup truck, killing him.

Paramedics transported the 45-year-old driver of the car by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center. Officials said he was in serious condition.

It is not known whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in the accident, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Just last month, two people died in a wrong-way crash along I-480 in Garfield Heights.

Frank Huber, 61, died when his car was hit by an SUV speeding west in the eastbound lanes, police said. The driver of the SUV also died.

Huber is the brother-in-law of Ohio State Sen. Bob Spada.
