Drinking Coffee May Ward Off Diabetes

Dutch Researchers Find Benefit Of Drinking Coffee

POSTED: 1:39 p.m. EST November 8, 2002

There are several risks of drinking too much coffee, but there is also a benefit.

According to Health Anchor Lee Jordan, a cup of coffee helps millions of people kickstart their mornings, but it may also help reduce the risk of diabetes.

Dutch researchers discovered that certain ingredients in coffee help the human body metabolize sugar, therefore reducing the risk of diabetes.

Studies show that people who drank seven or more cups of coffee each day were 50 percent less likely to develop the disease.

Jordan added that it doesn't matter what kind of coffee a person enjoys. It can be regular, cappuccino, latte or espresso.
