UPDATED: 9:01 am EDT September 5, 2008

A published report said the number of bedbug cases in Cuyahoga County are up.

The tiny bloodsuckers are a nuisance because they feed on blood of animals and people, and they get into the smallest cracks and crevices.

Not only do they get into your bedding and mattress to lay their eggs, they also like electrical sockets and some types of phones.

This year, exterminators are responding to dozens of cases around the area. Cuyahoga County reported zero cases last year.

The Cuyahoga County Board of Health said bedbugs often invade your home through travel. You should check your clothing and luggage for bugs after bringing them back into your home.

If you don't want to take any chance, don't keep your bags on hotel room floors.

Unlike mosquitoes, bedbugs to not spread diseases; they are mainly just a nuisance.

Another reason bedbugs may be on the rise is the decreased use of harsh pesticides in favor of baits or traps, which bedbugs do not often go for.
