Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile In Cuyahoga Co.

UPDATED: 2:45 pm EDT June 26, 2008

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed that mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile virus in Cuyahoga County.

There have been no cases of West Nile in birds, horses or humans at this time, the department of health said.

There were 23 cases of West Nile in humans in 2007. The department of health has tracked instances of the virus since 2002, when there were 441 human cases.

To avoid mosquito bites that could possibly lead to infection, people should avoid outdoor activities between dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes are most active.

If you must be outdoors, wear long pants and sleeves and light colors. You should also use bug repellent.
