Chipotle Illness Confirmed To Be Norovirus

POSTED: 4:36 pm EDT April 23, 2008
UPDATED: 4:57 pm EDT April 23, 2008

Health officials confirmed that the food-borne illness associated with a Chipotle restaurant in Kent was norovirus genotype G2.

More than 400 people reported becoming ill at the restaurant between April 14 and April 18. Symptoms included nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Norovirus genotype G2 is the most common form of the illness seen in Ohio.

The restaurant closed last Friday to be disinfected, and no new cases have been reported since it reopened on Saturday.

However, officials said secondary cases of infection are starting to emerge among people who have been in close contact with those infected by the norovirus.

Health officials encourage people who have been infected or are around infected people to practice good hand-washing and hygeine techiniques to avoid spreading the virus.
