CLEVELAND -- Dr. Michael Roizen appeared on Oprah Monday and offered tips on living better and longer. Roizen of the Cleveland Clinic shared information with NewsChannel5's Health Reporter Alicia Booth that he didn't share on the show. "It's a lifestyle change, but it really isn't that hard once you decide you're gonna do it," Roizen said. The change, he said, involves nitric oxide. Getting more of it can help you live longer and keep you from visiting the doctor.Roizen said we get this by the way we breathe and eat. "Re-learn how to breathe through our nose. When we do mediation that's some of the benefits. When you meditate you don't do it with an open mouth. You meditate with a closed mouth breathing through your nose." Roizen said you also have to avoid certain foods. "Anything with four-legged fat in it," he said. "Anything that says partially hydrogenated, and if it has the word simple sugar on the first five ingredients, cut it out." Booth said changing the way you breathe and replacing saturated fat with fruits and vegetables can lower your risk for heart attack and stroke. It will also make you feel better. Roizen also suggested using a Neti-Pot, which has been discussed on Oprah several times. It's an ancient way to cleanse your nose with water.
